Newlat: optimized IT infrastructure management with IBM and Var Group

The data network of Newlat, an agri-food group established in the market with historic brands in the dairy, pasta, and bakery sectors, now covers all regions of Italy: from Lecce to Turin, every facility communicates seamlessly with the others, with network centralization in Reggio Emilia, the headquarters. The two latest-generation IBM Power 10 machines, which replaced the four previous ones, ensure high performance and significant savings in time and costs related to infrastructure maintenance.

Integrate and optimize the IBM environment

Before becoming part of the same group, Newlat in Reggio Emilia and Centrale del Latte in Florence had each chosen IBM solutions with different data replication technologies. When the former acquired the latter, the need arose to unify the two data centers with a machine configuration capable of consolidating and managing all users from a single location. Mission: integrate and centralize!

From Business Continuity to System Centralization

After the appropriate feasibility analyses, the entire Power and Storage infrastructure was optimized, placing the backup machine with Disaster Recovery in Florence, the facility closest to the headquarters and best suited for this role. Thanks to this choice, production downtime risks were eliminated, as the secondary machine can be activated almost in real time. High Availability was also consolidated at both sites with the innovative IBM PowerHA software, aiming to reduce the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) by at least half, from 5 minutes to 2.5 minutes.
